Vintique Motors is thrilled to present this 1989 GMC Sierra SLE C3500 dually!
1988 marked the first year for the totally redesigned GM trucks, known internally as the GMT400. Chevrolet's version was released first followed by GMC's in 1989. This new generation was more aerodynamic and featured a number of drastic updates over the previous generation that would see continuous improvement through the end of the production in 2000. These trucks were offered with a host of convenience features as trucks had become more mainstream as everyday transportation. Several trim levels were offered from base work truck to luxurious for the times Silverado and SLE trim levels on the Chevrolet and GMC brands respectively.
This 1989 Sierra in top-of-the-line SLE trim is a C3500 heavy duty model with the dual rear wheel option. It was sold new in Bristol, Indiana on 7/18/1989 and remained with the original owner for nearly 17 years until 5/13/2006 when it was sold to its second owner, also of Bristol, Indiana. It remained with the second owner for 6 and a half years before selling it to its third owner from Eaton Rapids, Michigan on 10/30/2012. It was retained by the third owner for 7 years until it was acquired by Sundance Chevrolet in Grand Ledge, Michigan on 10/6/2019. Sundance Chevrolet sold it to its fourth owner, also of Grand Ledge, Michigan, on 1/26/2020 in which it remained with this owner for 3 years before our acquisition.
Under ownership of the fourth owner, a refresh was undertaken in which the truck was repainted in its original factory color of Olympic White while the interior was changed from dark blue with a bench seat to black featuring Procar leather bucket seats and a center console. Additionally, the original 454ci V8 was swapped for a new GM Performance ZZ502 crate 502ci V8 rated at 508hp and 580 lb-ft of torque mated to the original heavy duty 3-speed automatic transmission. Factory features include power windows, power locks, a tilt steering column, AM/FM Stereo with cassette and equalizer, a 50-gallon fuel tank, roof clearance lights and a 4:10 rear axle gear giving the truck a 10,000lb GVWR with the dual rear wheel configuration.
During the refresh, several other updates were included such as a Holly Sniper EFI system, a new air conditioning system, a Be Cool aluminum radiator with dual electric fans, a Magnaflow stainless steel exhaust system, a Moser aluminum rear axle cover, a Line-X spray in bedliner, a Truxport Truxedo roll-up bed cover, American Racing 16" flat black wheels with Falken Wild Peak A/T tires, new urethane bushings, new OE Bilstein shocks, LED smoked roof clearance lights, and a Dakota Digital gauge cluster were all installed. The gauge cluster odometer was matched to the exact mileage at the time of the swap and today the truck is presented with 87,480 miles which corroborates with the multiple Carfax service interval entries.
The truck is offered with several manuals pertaining to the engine, EFI system, and Dakota Digital gauge cluster as well as as spare aluminum oil pan and trans kit. These trucks are from an era where high build quality was put to the test in which many survive today in varying degrees of quality. Do not miss this opportunity to acquire this refreshed example in very rare single cab dually configuration with a massive 502ci V8!
