On a muggy morning in early August, my little front yard pollinator garden in Toronto is abuzz with bumble bees and aflutter with butterflies. Low-maintenance perennials include purple coneflower (Echinacea purpurea), dense blazing star (Liatris spicata), Russian sage (Perovskia atriplicifolia), knautia (K. macedonica) and 'Goldsturm' blackeyed susan (Rudbeckia fulgida var. sullivantii). Not shown, but still producing flowers, is 'Walker's Low' catmint, a workhorse. And the monarch butterfly is resting on 'Autumn Fire' sedum, not yet in bloom.
