Chrism Mass to Commemorate Establishment of the Priesthood 2025 | Cardinal McElroy | Holy Week

As we continue Holy Week 2025, The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Washington invites you to join us via Livestream on Monday, April 14, at 1:50 PM EDT, as Robert Cardinal McElroy, Archbishop of Washington, celebrates the Chrism Mass to Commemorate the Establishment of the Priesthood from The Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle in Washington, DC, United States of America.
Cardinal Wilton Gregory, Archbishop Emeritus of Washington, will concelebrate.
Music before and during this Mass will be provided by the Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle's Schola Cantorum choir!

The Chrism Mass is celebrated annually during Holy Week. During this Mass, Cardinal McElroy will consecrate and bless the sacred oils used by all parishes in the archdiocese over the next year to administer the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, Holy Orders and the Anointing of the Sick. Commemorating the establishment of the priesthood, Cardinal McElroy and the priests of the archdiocese will also renew the promises made at their ordination, reaffirming their commitment to Christ, to His Church and to priestly ministry.


During Holy Week, Catholics throughout the Archdiocese of Washington participate in sacred liturgies remembering the death of Christ and celebrating his resurrection on Easter Sunday.
