Varanasi, also known as Benares or Kashi, is a city steeped in legends, spirituality, and cultural richness. With a history dating back over 3,000 years, it is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. Varanasi's founding is attributed to Lord Shiva in Hindu mythology, and its name is derived from the Varuna and Assi rivers that flow alongside it.

Throughout the ages, Varanasi has held immense historical significance. It has been a center of learning, spirituality, and culture, attracting scholars, pilgrims, and artists from far and wide. The city has witnessed the rise and fall of various dynasties, such as the Mauryas, Guptas, and Mughals, each leaving their mark on its historical heritage.
The city is known worldwide for its many ghats—steps leading down the steep river bank to the water—where pilgrims perform rituals. Of particular note are the Dashashwamedh Ghat, the Panchganga Ghat, the Manikarnika Ghat, and the Harishchandra Ghat, the last two being where Hindus cremate their dead. The Hindu genealogy registers at Varanasi are kept here. Among the notable temples in Varanasi are the Kashi Vishwanath Temple of Shiva, the Sankat Mochan Hanuman Temple, and the Durga Temple.
We reached Varanasi with the intention of Mahakumbha place. We reached Benares by Bibhuti Express from Howrah. From Benares we reached Prajaraj and then leaving Mahakumbha bath there we reached Ayodhya.
