Personal comment from the author of the replay (giro-X -- LUX):
Ryū Jin (lit. "dragon god) is a classic style, vertical scrolling shooter developed by East Technology and published by Taito on Dec. 1993. Still nowadays I ignore the relation between the title and the content :v
Player can choose one from four different planes, who have different Vulcan weapon and bombs, but identical Laser weapon. 5 possible powerups appear in the game:
-the orb boosts vulcan or laser, depending on the chosen orb color (blue orb for Vulcan, pink orb for Laser);
-the OP enables a couple of pads which fire homing missiles (yellow OP) or option laser (green OP);
-a Bomb pickup;
-a Life pickup (if player has 4 life points already, they'll get instead 5000 pts);
-a BIG powerup that allows player to become BIG and be invulnerable for a few seconds. And "potentially" cause BIG damage.
Unfortunately, the BIG powerup is the rarest of all from preset enemies, it randomly appears in the field though, several times.
The bomb button must be used carefully, as you can throw bombs in sequence when pressed. If no bomb is in stock, pressing the button will make the Option pods rotate around the plane. The main firing button can be used for rapid fire or loaded attacks.
About this replay - No autofire, and almost no Vulcan/Laser upgrade or bomb usage
This game has rank. As you advance in boosting your main weapon, the enemies become more aggressive and require more hits to be defeated (and Laser increases rank even more than Vulcan). This is why I'm trying to avoid any Orb while picking everything else. This is not a strategy to the ultimate highscore hunt, though, as each useless orb picked when at max power grants 5000 pts; this is "my" strategy to being able to survive and get the 1CC :v (let's be honest, this isn't my best genre). One Laser boost has been picked at final stage by mistake.
Also this game doesn't have many score tactics, except for when you consume bombs over a dead boss. Plenty of enemies and all bosses give points when taking a hit, and bombs can amplify those points. All bombs in this replay have been saved for the final moment, when final enemy ship is having a long explosion (except a bomb I used a few seconds earlier to save myself).
Lastly, I did NOT use autofire, which use would make a huge difference in some enemy fights.
Music bug
Sometimes the following background music in this game doesn't start properly when many sound effects are played. This is why at the final boss rush you hear silence in background, there's supposed to be actual music.
