"la Folia" is one of Europe's oldest known musical themes, perhaps originating from the Iberian peninsula. The music's captivating nature has captured the imagination of composers crossing centuries from Corelli to Rachmaninoff. The title refers to the ground bass line that the piece is built upon. Early musicians improvised above the fixed harmonic progression, the same practice that inspired me to write this piece down for the harp.
