For Louise Nevelson, clothing was never separate from her art. Her bold, layered style was an extension of the same collage and assemblage process that defined her sculpture.
Fashion became a means of alignment for Nevelson—a harmonious outer expression as deliberate as the sculptural worlds she built.
Hear from Maria Nevelson (Louise Nevelson Foundation), Ann Marie Mulhearn Sayer (Slobodkina Foundation), and Dr. Catherine Walworth (Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts) as they explore how artists Louise Nevelson and Esphyr Slobodkina used fashion as another means of self-expression.
"Architects of Being: Louise Nevelson and Esphyr Slobodkina" is on view at AMFA through January 11, 2026. Admission is always free.
