Paul wrote this epistle to the Ephesians while a prisoner at Rome about the years 58 or 59 AD. Paul was led to realize false teachers would rise up in this church after his death and do great mischief. So the design of this epistle was to establish the saints, true-believers, in the doctrines of the Gospel so they would not be misled by errors of the wicked. Ephesian subject matter includes doctrines of grace, divine predestination, eternal election, redemption by Christ by the peace and pardon of His blood in opposition to works. Ephesians also refers to the Gospel ministry, gifts qualifying for it, and the duties of Christians.
The key verses are Ephesians 2:8-9: "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.
