How to Care for Linen Clothes 🫧 Little Women Atelier | Laundry routine 🧺 Cottagecore

Linen dresses are beautiful garments that require a specific care routine to keep them in good condition. And, in this video we wanted to share some tips to help you care for your linen dresses:

LINEN CARE TIPS:

🧺Before washing, divide linens by color and never mix light colors with bright colors to prevent staining of your light items. We recommend turning the dress inside out to protect the buttons.

🧺Washing:
Our linen dresses can be hand-washed or machine-washed on a gentle cycle with a slow spin speed to minimize agitation and reduce the risk of wrinkling or stretching the fabric. It's best to use cold or lukewarm water instead of hot water, as high temperatures can shrink or damage linen fibers. Use a mild detergent that is suitable for delicate fabrics.

🧺Avoid overloading:
When machine-washing your linen dress, make sure not to overload the machine. Overcrowding can cause the dress to twist and wrinkle excessively.

🧺Drying:
We never use a dryer for our dresses, depending on the weather we dry them outside (keep it away from direct sunlight) or hang them on the door, or lay the dress flat on a clean, dry towel. To maintain their shape and prevent shrinkage, smooth out any wrinkles with your hands and carefully hang it on a well-shaped hanger. Thin hangers can stretch the dress and make it unattractive. This step will make the ironing process easier.

🧺 Ironing:
The beauty of linen lies in its imperfections. It is allowed to be wrinkled, but you can easily remove them with ironing. Iron the dress while it's still slightly damp or use a steam iron. Set the iron to a medium-high temperature and
iron the dress on the reverse side, where it’s possible.

🧺Stain treatment:
Treat any stains as soon as possible to prevent them from setting. Never use hot water.
Never use chlorine bleach, except white linen.
🫧French laundry soap effectively tackles a wide range of stains.
🫧Also baking soda with lemon juice can be effective for removing stains. Apply it into the affected area for a few minute them wash the item as usual.
🫧If none of these methods help to get rid of the stain, and if your item is in white color, you can try applying bleach with a cotton swab for 1 minute. Immediately rinse this area and wash the entire dress.

🧺Storage:
I love to keep lavender near my clothes to give them a pleasant fragrance. When storing linen dresses, make sure they are clean and completely dry. Avoid excessive folding. If possible, store them hanging or rolled to minimize creasing. Avoid using plastic bags, as they can trap moisture and cause mildew. Instead, use breathable garment bags to protect it from dust and light.

By following these care tips, you can help prolong the life of your linen dresses and keep them looking fresh and beautiful for years to come.

Recently, I shared with my daughters how we used to wash clothes on a washboard during summer vacations at my grandparents' house when I was a child. These memories hold a special place in my heart as they are filled with warmth and love. I was delighted to recreate those moments with my girls in our own yard 🫧They thoroughly enjoyed doing laundry and even asked me for several days in a row to set up laundry for them🧺 We washed clothes for all their dolls, and it was quite adorable!
