Welcome back to Mossyoakfarms — where real farm work meets real problem solving.
Today I put a budget-friendly battery operated fuel transfer pump from Amazon to the test, and let’s just say… it turned into a full-blown adventure.
This electric liquid transfer pump came with multiple caps and filler neck adapters, supposedly making it easy to attach to different fuel cans. But when I tried it with my yellow diesel can, the built-in strainer completely blocked the pickup tube. No connection, no flow, no go.
So I improvised.
I cleaned out a Harbor Freight 5-gallon bucket, transferred the diesel into it, and used the battery powered pump from there. The cans are heavy and slow to pour, so this workaround actually made things easier… until the batteries died.
Brand new Thunderbolt AA batteries (over a year old) quit mid fueling. The pump claims it can run on 2–4 AA batteries or USB-C power, so I ended up powering it from my pickup just to keep going. And that “automatic shutoff” feature the manual bragged about? Yeah… the tractor tank overflowed. Not ideal.
In this video, I walk through every issue, every workaround, and how I finally got the tractor fueled using this portable fuel transfer pump. If you’re thinking about buying one of these battery operated liquid pumps — or you’ve already fought with one — this real-world test might save you some frustration.
