Today Paul and I rode eBikes from Bright to Myrtlefood and back today along a cycle path that was once a railway line. This gobsmackingly beautiful leg of the Rail Trail meanders alongside the Ovens River past vineyards, hops producers, orchards and groves.
It is 30km of unique and easy-to-ride sections of sealed off-road riding, taking in beautiful scenery, historic sites, food, beer and wine producers and the incredible sense of nature and space that Victoria's High Country is famous for.
You can start with coffee at one of the many popular cafes in Bright, hop from cellar door to farm gate to providore, before reaching your destination in Myrtleford where you can have lunch and relax by the Ovens River.
Nestled in the Ovens Valley and with Happy Valley Creek running through the centre of town, Myrtleford is a popular destination for food, wine and adventure lovers. Originally known as Myrtle Creek, the town was shaped by pioneer graziers, gold seekers and timber getters. These days the tobacco farms have been replaced by productive crops including wine grapes, hops, walnuts, chestnuts and berries.
Then you can do it all again on the way back to Bright.
You can see Paul lying down in some of these images. He currently has a prolapsed disc between L4L5, and needs to stretch and rest his back as it heals. He is not being lazy!
