George Raft was best known for his roles as an actor in gangster films, especially in the 1930s and 1940s. While he might not be as remembered today he acted alongside some of the biggest stars of the time including James Cagney and Paul Muni. While mostly associated with gangster films he also acted in films from other genres including Billy Wilder’s comedy film Some Like It Hot.

George Raft inspired many of his colleagues and actors and directors alike became enamored with him. Many genre filmmakers of today are influenced by his films and share his acting style with their cast. And yet, George Raft, despite his incredible talent and influence has been largely forgotten.
