Ability of a novel primer to enhance the polymerization of a self-cured resin composite

This research assessed a new self-curing dental resin composite (Stela Automix) and its primer. The study investigated the degree of conversion, polymerization kinetics, and temperature changes of the composite with and without the primer, and with the addition of a different bonding agent, using both light-curing and self-curing methods. Results showed that the primer significantly enhanced the composite's polymerization, achieving a higher degree of conversion and faster reaction rate. Light-curing, however, did not improve the degree of conversion and increased the temperature, potentially harming the tooth. The study concludes that using the dedicated primer with Stela Automix is superior to light-curing for optimal results.
