Standard test signals:
The signals such as step, ramp, saw-tooth, square wave, triangular wave, etc can be used as reference signals.
A system is designed and analyzed for some generally experienced inputs like step, ramp, impulse and parabolic input signals called as standard input signals.
They are used for time domain analysis of control system.
1.Step signals:
A sudden application of input or a signal where value changes from one level to another level in zero time.
If A = 1 then it is called unit step function/signal
Unit step function is also called as displacement function
2.Ramp signals:
A signal that changes slowly with time in linear fashion or a gradual application of input signal is called ramp signal.
If A=1 then it is called unit ramp function or velocity function.
3.Parabolic signals:
It is more gradual application of input signal than ramp signal.
If A=1 then it is called unit parabolic function or acceleration function.
4.Impulse Signal:
It is the input of very high amplitude suddenly applied as shock for a short duration of time.
If A=1 then it is a unit impulse function(delta function). It is denoted by δ(t)
