Test #1 to boil water with a 180W solar panel and a bunch of 10A10 diodes.
When I happened to remind myself in a volt lowering project where I used diodes as a poor man's Buck converter, a curiosity was aroused what you can achieve with the heat that diodes emit when you push a few amps through them.
In this video I connect a number of diodes in series to find my 180W solar panel's Maximun Power Point (MPPT).
To show what these small diodes are capable of, I chose to test boiling water.
Test #1 gave me a 32,3°C/90°F difference in water temp in 8 minutes, but then it broke. The prototype needs a lot of tweaking, but I'm stubborn and I love Learning by doing, so I'll find a solution.
