Before becoming a successful producer in the early 60s, Joe Saraceno had been in a duo with Tony Savonne known as Tony & Joe, who had a Top Forty hit with their song "The Freeze." Savonne brought "The Freeze" back into a studio on September 3, 1964, along with three other songs. He had H.B. Barnum as session leader and arranger, using a handful of Hollywood musicians. Among them was drummer Earl Palmer, guitarists Rene Hall and former guitarist for The Coasters, Adolph Jacobs. Carol Kaye was on bass with the organ played by Leon Russell. Two of the four songs, Paul Robn's "Is It Worth It" and "Let's Do The Breakaway," written by Paul Robin and Jeff Wayne, were used on a Silver Streak Records single credited to The Goobers. Fred Schwartz, lead vocalist on the song, was in a live act called The Goobers, named after the candy because they sounded like a couple of nuts! The vocal here reminds me of Freddy Cannon.
