Lachlan Skipworth – Ocean Pulse (2023)

Ensemble Offspring presents the world premiere of Ocean Pulse by Lachlan Skipworth at Lone Hemispheres, The Church on 7 December 2023.

"I harbour a deep love of the ocean, which played a prominent role during my youth in Perth. The restless energy fascinated me, and the feeling of catching waves and being thrown about is something I still seek out in summer. Ocean Pulse reflects this through phrases that ebb and flow incessantly, some gentle and some more powerful. A sense of buoyancy pervades however, driven by mostly quintuple meters interspersed with brief metric modulations above a constant pulse. I’ve also chosen melodic lines and harmonic patterns that encourage the performer to push and pull the tempo as they themselves navigate the flow. The piece features three main sections, with fast-tempo material bookending a slower and more lyrical central interlude." –Lachlan Skipworth
