The Restitution Study Group launches the Second Cohort of the Benin Bronze-Making Fellowship, training cultural artists to create bronze replicas and original works for the forthcoming Benin Kingdom Museum in Harlem.
This orientation features opening reflections on the historical origins of the Benin bronzes—crafted with metal sourced from manilla currency exchanged for captives sold into transatlantic enslavement—and welcomes His Excellency Prince Ovonramwen of the Benin Kingdom and Queen Mother Dr. Delois Blakely of the Royal Court of Harlem as honored guests.
