Lunging Basics - Getting a horse to move forward that will turn and face the center when lunging.
this is really a good case, with Sedona of a horse that knows how to work in a round pen, but not very well on a lunge line. she has gotten the idea of facing the center of the handler very well, but turning and changing directions takes a big change in the handlers position
Sedona doesn't understand if you point and move the whip that that is the direction she's supposed to go. it takes time to actually teach a horse this, and the first step is to get them to go the correct direction on the lunge line. but this is sometimes much more difficult than you think. you will actually see Eli struggle with this concept, and learn that he has to move his feet and pay attention to the direction in order to accomplish the goal. now this is the first step, and there will be lots more to come to get Sedona to lunge much more easily.
