The Tsokar or Tsho kar is a fluctuating Salt Lake known for its size and depth situated in the Rupshu Plateau and valley in Leh district in the southern part in Union Territory of Ladakh in India. It is located 102 km from Leh City, the capital of Ladakh. It is also recognized as India's 42nd Ramsar site.
The Tso Kar is connected by an inlet stream at its south-west end to a small lake, Startsapuk Tso, and together they form the 9 km2 More plains pool, which is dominated by the peaks of two mountains, Thugje (6050 m) and Gursan (6370 m).
Hanle, also spelt Anle, is a large historic village in the Leh district of the Indian union territory of Ladakh. It is located in the Hanle River valley on an old branch of the ancient Ladakh–Tibet trade route and comprises the six hamlets Bhok, Dhado, Punguk, Khuldo, Naga and Tibetan Refugee habitation. It is the site of the 17th-century Hanle Monastery (gompa) of the Drukpa Kagyu branch of Tibetan Buddhism.
Hanle is the home of Hanle observatory (ISO - Indian Astronomical Observatory), the tenth highest on the list of highest astronomical observatories in the world.
Hanle is located in the valley of the Hanle River, which originates near the Imis La pass at 5,290 m (17,360 ft) high saddle, south of Ukdungle Indian Military base, Zarsar and Tradole peak on the India-Tibet border and joins the Indus River near Nowi and Loma north of Hanle village, close to the town of Nyoma. A road running through the Hanle valley from Loma is the quickest way to reach Hanle from Chushul and Pangong Tso side.

Must Know Before You Travel to Ladakh-
Roads to Leh-Ladakh are closed from November to mid-May due to heavy snowfall.
Permits for Indians: No Inner Line Permit (ILP) needed (as of August 2021). Foreigners: Must get a Protected Area Permit (PAP) or Restricted Area Permit (RAP) from the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Leh.
Environmental Fees: Green Fee: ₹400, Wildlife Protection Fee: ₹20/day, Red Cross Fund: ₹100 Payable online or via hotels/travel agents.
Vehicle Permit: No permit required for Ladakh itself. Rohtang Pass permit is needed when traveling from Manali to Leh.
Plastic-Free Zone: Avoid using or carrying single-use plastics.
Cash & ATMs: ATMs are only available in Leh and may not always work. Carry sufficient cash.
Acclimatization: If arriving by air, rest in Leh for at least 24 hours to prevent altitude sickness. Start Diamox (Medicine for Altitude Sickness) 1–2 days before the trip (consult your doctor beforehand).
No Inner Line Permit needed for Leh–Manali or Leh–Srinagar routes, but Ecology Contribution Fund fee applies.
Use deeply hydrating moisturizer and high-SPF sunscreen daily to combat dryness and sunburn.
Carry a puffer jacket with fleece lining, thermal innerwear, gloves, and warm socks. Layering is key.
Only postpaid Airtel and BSNL SIMs work in many areas. Prepaid SIMs do not work in Ladakh.
