New Orleans jail escape: Reward for tips leading to arrest of 2 remaining fugitives increases to $50,000!
In the nearly two weeks since, eight of the inmates have been captured, but Massey and Groves remain on the run, police said.
NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - The Orleans Parish District Attorney's Office will no longer investigate the escape of 10 detainees from the Orleans Parish Jail, leaving the work to the Louisiana Attorney General's Office.
Attorney General Liz Murrill's office released a statement reading:
"Attorney General Murrill initiated a criminal investigation at the jail on Friday, May 16, which is underway. Last week, after issuing certain demands to the Sheriff, the District Attorney determined it to be proper to step aside from handling any investigation or prosecution of matters related to the escape before the inmates went over the wall. The criminal investigation was and still is directed by the Attorney General. For that reason, the proceedings initiated by the District Attorney should be terminated."
"Unfortunately, but unavoidably, my office's necessary day-to-day interactions with the OPSO could impose a practical conflict with regards to spearheading a direct investigation of the Sheriff, her staff, and her organization in this matter."
Fox 8 Legal Analyst Joe Raspanti said who's running the investigation can make a difference.
"As a coach used to tell me, it's not the X's and the O's it's the Jimmy's and the Joes. It just depends who in each office has the state of mind to get this thing accomplished," he said.

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Embattled Orleans
Parish Susan Hutson announced Tuesday evening (May 20) that she is "temporarily" suspending her campaign for re-election this fall.
Hutson has come under withering criticism in the wake of the May 16 escape of 10 inmates from the Orleans Justice Center jail she has supervised since May 2022. Hutson faces three opponents in her run for a second term in an Oct. 11 primary election.
