If you've been watching my videos you have probably already saw two (Meg Got Nerve and Someone's Watching Over Simba) that I did for my Religion and Disney Class, well, here's a third.
This video is a video response to the documentary called "Mickey Mouse Monopoly" which we watched in class. They have a lot of points to make about Disney in that doc and how it's an evil cooperation. My views on it? "Mickey Mouse Monopoly" takes a lot of the clips they use out of context and use them to make their point rather than giving the bigger picture. One section that really got me was the part about Hercules. The doc was trying to tell people that the movie Hercules was all about merchandising. Sure, it has its song "Zero To Hero" where it talks about Hercules being the most famous, and richest, man in all Greece because he's become a hero. He has action figures, a clothes line and ornaments made of him. The thing is, in no way do the Hercules movie glorify this. It shows Hercules still being sad. It shows that this is not what the gods meant by becoming a hero and fame/fortune do not bring someone happiness or peace. Hercules, as a kid, thought that becoming a hero would change his life but he was sorely disappointed. It goes on to show Megs save Hercules life and risk her own, this makes Hercules realize there is more to life than fame and fortune. He goes to rescue Megs soul from the underworld. His love for Megs, and the fact he risks his life for her, brings back his godliness. This shows that fame and fortune won't make you a god. The respect and love you have for others is what truly counts.
Once again, I want to reiterate, through this video I am trying to show how "Mickey Mouse Monopoly" took clips from Hercules completely out of context. Also, Craig Sharpe (Candian Idol runner-up) does a great job with the song used! Hope you all enjoy it!
