The track included on the video is ‘Tainted Love’, composed by Ed Cobb and originally recorded by American singer Gloria Jones in 1964. It was the B Side of her single ‘My Bad Boy’s Coming Home’, which was a commercial flop. The Motown-influenced B Side was rediscovered by a British DJ during a 1973 trip to the United States and was perfect for the vibrant UK Northern Soul scene.
We’ve mashed up this track with Hit The Road Jack, a song written by the rhythm and blues singer Percy Mayfield and first recorded in 1960. The song became famous after it was recorded by Ray Charles and The Raelettes featuring vocalist Margie Hendrix. Charles’s recording won a Grammy Award for Best Rhythm and Blues Recording.
