When Khamzat Chimaev takes photos with Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov, MMA fans and media explode but when UFC fighters shout out Donald Trump, dance for him in the cage, or when the UFC rolls him out as a VIP guest, almost nobody in the sport calls it out.
In this video, we break down why Muslim fighters like Khamzat (and previously Khabib) get slammed for “politics” they often can’t even avoid, while American fighters freely praise Trump with no consequences, even though his decisions affect real wars and real people. We look at Kadyrov’s influence on fighters, the gifts he gives, and how dangerous it is to publicly oppose him, then compare that to how safe it is to oppose Trump in the US, and why so few UFC fighters do.
Finally, we revisit Khabib’s own words about staying away from politics and using fame to help people instead, and ask whether MMA will ever apply that same standard fairly to everyone.
