春秋时，齐国贤臣晏子奉命出使楚国。楚王欲羞辱之，特令守门者言：“齐国人皆短小，今有使者，其门不足入。”晏子不怒，答曰：“使狗者由狗门，使人者由人门。”楚王闻之，愧而设宴相待。晏子机智不辱国，名扬诸侯。

During the Spring and Autumn period, Yan Zi, a respected minister of Qi, was sent to Chu as an envoy. The king of Chu tried to humiliate him, having the guards say, “The people of Qi are all short; our gate is too small for their envoy to enter.” Unfazed, Yan Zi replied, “If you were receiving a dog, then use the dog gate. But since I am a man, use the gate for men.” The king, embarrassed by his own pettiness, welcomed Yan Zi with honor.
