5th Baltic MSP Forum. Parallel session 6: Coastal Accessibility

Coastal accessibility is a multifaceted issue with significant implications for both local communities and regional economies. This session delves into the challenges and opportunities related to coastal accessibility in the Baltic Sea Region (BSR), with a particular focus on Latvia, Poland, and Estonia. By examining the issue at national, regional, and local levels, we aim to identify common challenges and explore innovative solutions. Multi-level governance is necessary to tackle both landward and seaward access.

The session brings together academics, policymakers, and practitioners to share experiences, lessons learned, and best practices. By fostering interdisciplinary dialogue, we aim to develop a comprehensive understanding of the complex issues surrounding coastal accessibility and identify effective strategies to enhance coastal regions for the benefit of both residents and visitors.

The #5thBalticMSPForum "Navigate Planning Through Changes" took place on 11–12 November 2025 in Riga, Latvia. This year, the Forum was organised in close connection with the #BalticSea2Land project, serving as its final conference, and broadening the scope to strengthen linkages between #MaritimeSpatialPlanning (MSP) and coastal zone planning.

The 5th Baltic MSP Forum was organised by the #VASAB Secretariat together with the Ministry of Smart Administration and Regional Development of the Republic of Latvia, as the Lead Partner of the Interreg Baltic Sea Region project Baltic Sea2Land, and in cooperation with the partners of the project’s consortium.

The 5th Baltic MSP Forum is supported by the Interreg Baltic Sea Region Programme 2021-2027 – through the Subsidy contract for the project C018 Baltic Sea2Land of Interreg Baltic Sea Region.
