How to Build a Balsa RC Plane Off Plans: No. 5 Cutting tail section templates and nose blocks

Hello and welcome to my build series on how to build a balsa wood radio control (RC) plane off plans, meaning I will be using the plans to cut and shape all of the parts. I am building the Aeromite RC plane, which is an all balsa and other wood construction, 36 inch wingspan, four channel, rc plane that will be powered by an OS Engines 15 LA glow engine. I will cut all the templates for the various parts, such as the wing ribs, fuselage formers and bulkheads, and other components straight from the plans to build the plane. I will also try to use mostly small hand tools, such as hobby knives, small saws, razor planes, sand paper, and other small tools to cut and shape all of the wood parts. For glues I will be using mostly CA glues, epoxy, and wood glue. I will show step by step how to build an rc plane from plans, from obtaining a plan, through all construction steps, engine and electronics setup, finally the maiden flight! For power, I will be using an O.S. 15LA Glow Engine.

In this video I show how to cut out the tail section parts from plan templates and I use an easy method suggested by a viewer. I place masking tape on the wood sheet, then glue the template to the tape, cut out the parts, and easily remove the tape and paper. It's a great method! I also align and glue the horizontal stabilizer and fin to the fuselage and install reinforcement blocks in the nose engine compartment. For glue I use Starbond Thin CA and Thick CA and Bob Smith Industries 30 minute epoxy.
