5.26.21 | by Christopher | HAMPTON BAYS, LI - At approximately 8:45pm, Southampton Town PD responded to a 911 call from an individual who claims to have witnessed a male subject fall from the mid-span of the Ponquogue Bridge, which connects the mainland to the Atlantic Ocean, into the Shinnecock Bay. Hampton Bays FD and EMS also responded, along with the US Coast Guard from Station Shinnecock. An aviation unit from Suffolk County PD provided aerial reconnaissance. The focus of the search was concentrated on Shinnecock Bay, west of the bridge. The strength of the current, nightfall, and poor underwater visibility prevented the use of divers. After an hour, authorities called off the search until daylight. The identity of the individual is unknown. This case remains under active investigation.
