UONE - VAN LIGHTS EXPERIENCE - 20 YEARS OF DJING

This year, energetic Melbourne-based DJ Uone celebrates 20 years of DJing. His music career started out of a caravan on his mum’s property in the Victorian seaside surfing town of Shoreham. His special set – Van Lights – 20 Years of Doing – is an embodiment of his journey from these humble beginnings.

Needless to say, the COVID-19 pandemic has had a huge impact on the music community. Like numerous other artists, Uone has embraced the period of isolation as an opportunity to reset and return to grass roots, which is precisely what this video reflects. Importantly, it pays tribute to the psychedelic community that he was raised in and grew to love and adore. This very community that originated in the 1960s is of great significance to humanity as it represents pure love, freedom, music and art. Uone strongly feels that the expression of these is vital right now, given the current global political climate. He believes that today’s society is the contemporary representation of this movement and that it’s the responsibility of artists to ensure that the same messages of the ‘60s continue to be relayed.

The set is fittingly delivered from a caravan and encompasses all of Uone’s musical influences. An incredibly exciting feature of Van Lights – 20 Years of Djing is the unreleased and never-before heard poetry and lyrics from Jim Morrison's ‘An American Prayer’ recordings in 1978. This is the first track in the set. Other significant influences of Uone’s that can be heard throughout it include Terence McKenna, Derrick Carter, Jimi Hendrix, Elvis Presley, Rocky, The Rolling Stones, Nina Simone, PQM, Depeche Mode and Johnny Cash.

Uone hopes this set – the product of two decades of influences, personal growth, and the development of an ear for all sounds and genres – is a faithful portrayal of the community that means the world to him.
