I bought this old Craftman hydrostatic drive lawn tractor because it was cheap, looked great and has four wheel steering.
It wasn't running when I bought it. After a little playing around, and putting in a battery, the motor starts and runs, but needs some adjustment or a bit of carb cleaning.
However, when pressing on the forward/reverse pedal, nothing happened but there was a dry squeaking sound coming from the pulley. I took the belt off and the pulley spun with no resistance.
This video shows what I found.
What I didn't state in the video, the circle clip was installed on the wrong side of the washer, as you first install the shaft with the clip in place, then drop the washer in place, as shown. Clear as mud?
