Træna: A Trip to Norway's Remote Island Community

I’ve just spent a day in Traena, a remote set of islands far off the coast of Norway that few Norwegians even make it to.

Hidden gem is an overused word in travel, but watch this video to discover why Traena is exactly that. You’ll see the mountains that define these landmark islands, terrific views, and a thriving community that dates back to the Stone Age.

I was tempted by the Træna island hopping tour to see more of the landscapes, birdlife and so on, but in the end I chose the cultural walking tour of Husøy.

Although this meant I would only explore one island, I would see it in more depth and learn about the lifestyle of islanders from someone who grew up here and knows Træna inside out.
