Go to Recreation.gov- Island in the Sky district of Canyonlands National Park in Utah for your overnight back country permit. Or, this is a nice day hike, no permit needed . We hike to Murphy Point, set up camp, have a nap and eat dinner on the rim with a beautiful sunset. This is an easy back packing trip overnight. You will have the place to yourself for sunset and sunrise. Rain moved in on us and cut our evening short but, there are amazing views and photo opportunities. Peace and quiet will be the order. Whatever you pack in, you must pack out. Be respectful of the land and stay off micro soil. Don't throw rocks off the edge, there are trails below. Gaze out over White Rim Trail and in to the Maze district. The Green River flows below. We are not ultra light packers. We pack a 3 man tent to store all our gear inside as well. We packed our chairs to relax in and enjoy the views. You will need to pack all the water you will need . Step carefully along the edge, it is a steep drop off.
