1. Use a Phone Finder App:
For Android:
Go to Find My Device on a browser or use the Google Find My Device app on another device.
Sign in with the Google account that is linked to your stolen phone.
You’ll be able to see the phone’s location on a map, ring it, or remotely lock/erase it.
For iPhone:
Go to iCloud.com and use the Find My iPhone feature or use the Find My app on another Apple device.
Sign in with your Apple ID, and you’ll see the phone’s location, or you can remotely lock/erase it.
2. Call or Text Your Phone:
If the phone is turned on, try calling or sending a text with contact information offering a reward or simply asking for it back. Sometimes, people may return a lost phone.
3. Report the Theft to the Police:
Provide them with your phone’s serial number or IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity). This can help in tracking or recovering the phone.
4. Contact Your Carrier:
Inform your mobile service provider about the theft. They may be able to disable the phone’s service or help track the phone using the SIM card.
You can also request the carrier to block the device using the IMEI number.
5. Track IMEI Number:
Dial *#06# on any phone to find your device’s IMEI number. If you have it noted down, share it with the authorities or service providers, as it can be used to blacklist and track the device.
6. Use Third-Party Apps:
If you had apps like Cerberus, Prey, or other anti-theft apps installed, you can log in to their website or another device to track, lock, or erase your phone.
7. Check Google Timeline:
If location services were enabled on your phone, visit Google Maps Timeline to see its last known location, even if the battery is dead.
8. Notify Important Contacts:
Let your family, friends, or colleagues know about the theft in case the thief tries to misuse the phone.
By taking these steps quickly, you increase the chances of recovering your stolen phone.
To find and block a stolen phone in India, you can use the Sanchar Saathi portal, an initiative by the Department of Telecommunications. Here's how it works:
Block the phone using CEIR: The Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) allows you to block your stolen phone. You'll need to visit Sanchar Saathi, submit the phone’s IMEI number along with a police complaint. Once verified, the system blocks the phone from being used on any Indian network.
Tracing the phone: If someone tries to use your stolen phone, law enforcement can trace it using the system, making it easier for the police to recover your device(

TAFCOP: You can also use the TAFCOP module on the portal to check if any unauthorized mobile connections are taken in your name and report them(
