Petra is a famous archaeological site in Jordan's southwestern desert. Dating to around 300 B.C., it was the capital of the Nabatean Kingdom. Accessed via a narrow canyon called Al Siq, it contains tombs and temples carved into pink sandstone cliffs, earning its nickname, the "Rose City."
Petra, Jordan, is special for its unique rock-cut architecture, with elaborate tombs and temples carved directly into rose-red sandstone cliffs, featuring iconic structures like The Treasury and The Monastery. It was a thriving Nabataean trading hub, boasting an ingenious ancient water management system for survival in the arid desert, and is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.
