The lensmeter or lensometer is the primary tool used in the verification of written eyeglass prescriptions. The lesson covers reading or determining an eyeglass prescription. When an optician reads the powers from a lens of unknown value it is called lens neutralization. We will cover reading and marking the lens sphere power, cylinder power and axis. Opticians often neutralize lenses using the lensmeter so they have a record of what a patient is currently wearing in their eyeglass prescription. Optician training will always include lens neutralization as part of the skill set necessary to work as an optician.
