Jerry Fletcher (Mel Gibson) warns government worker, Alice Sutton (Julia Roberts), about some of his wacky conspiracy Theories such as Jerry Garcia still being alive and The Grateful Dead being intelligence agents. Jerry and Alice then talk about who "They" and "Them" behind these conspiracy theories really are. Alice also notices Jerry's obsession with the Catcher and The Rye connection to John Lennon before government agents break into his apartment because he knows too much.
