Take a walk back in time as I explore the Adra Tunnel—an abandoned railway tunnel nestled between Kelowna and Penticton in British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley. Built in the early 1900s as part of the Kettle Valley Railway, this 489-meter (1,604-foot) tunnel was one of the most ambitious parts of the route, designed to help trains cross the rugged terrain of the Myra Canyon region.
However, constant maintenance issues, unstable rock, and the construction of a safer bypass led to the tunnel being abandoned by the 1930s. Today, it remains a haunting yet beautiful reminder of BC’s bold railway past—hidden in the hills above Okanagan Lake.
Follow along as I navigate the dark interior, echoing walls, and forgotten history of this eerie manmade cave.
