The final weekend of June saw the Pontypool & Blaenavon Railway hold their Summer Steam Gala. This event would see up to five locos in steam, working a variety of passenger and goods trains up the main line, with a 'vintage train' working along the short branch line to Big Pit. Included in the lineup were, from the home fleet, Hunslet Austerity no.71515 'Mech. Navvies ltd.' and Andrew Barclay 'Rosyth No. 1', and guests locos in the form of Andrew Barclay no.1219 'Caledonia Works' and the two sole surviving Great Western outside cylinder Pannier Tanks, nos.1369 and 1501. My main focus for the day was of the latter guest locos, a rare combination indeed, and, in this video, we see them at various locations between Blaenavon High Level and Furnace Sidings, working individually on passenger and goods trains, then later double headed on the passenger set.
