For her first opus, the Winston “Electric Dread” McAnuff’s daughter chooses to surround herself with one of the best european Roots reggae band. Recorded and produced at the SoulNurse Studio by Gabriel Bouillon, sound engineer and guitarist of the Ligerians, the 10 tracks sound like a prescription for the future.

While most of the songs are part of the Roots reggae tradition, others are off the beaten track. A vibrant hymn to freedom, “Freedom of Peace” offers an original crossover between the afrobeat rhythmic power and the reggae softness. A thirst for freedom common to the title “Know Who”, symbol of the Nadia McAnuff’s rebellious and feminist spirit who denounces the “false rastas”, these wolves dressed as sheep who discredit an order that they claim to serve, on a joyful riddim recalling the heyday of the legendary Culture band.

A true UFO, the title “Yes We” concludes the album in a surprising way. On a hip-hop beat, the singer proves her vocal skill, handling the art of singing as well as toasting, while passing the baton to future generations like her son and rapper YLSam, a native of Philadelphia, who shows his talent. Music is definitely a family affair for the McAnuffs.

Mastered by Laurent “Tippy” Alfred, founder of I Grade Records from the Virgin Islands and traveling companion of Vaughn Benjamin, late Akae beka vocal leader (ex-Midnite band), Shelter From the Storm is a solid shed from the blast which is to come. The Ligerians accompany the Nadia McAnuff’s warm voice for a modern Roots reggae carrying a spiritual message of peace and solidarity.
