Why does running dragons in D&D 5e not feel quite right? Why are they always either overpowered steamrollers, or pathetic pushovers?
Dragons are the titular monsters of D&D that also form the cornerstone of most fantasy worlds, either as world-ending villains or wise old sages, there to guide the heroes on their journey. However, the dragons presented in the Fifth Edition Monster Manual for Dungeons and Dragons are not designed as well as they could be.
Join me as we explore the flaws of dragons in their original 2014 design, the changes Dungeon Masters can implement to remedy them, and the solutions the game designers at Wizards of the Coast have come up with to "fix" dragons in newer releases, including speculation on the likely alterations we'll get in the 2025 Monster Manual.
