Combate Beach in Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico, gets its name from a historical conflict over the salt flats between the towns of Cabo Rojo and Lajas. The conflict earned the people of Cabo Rojo the nickname "mata con hacha" (those who kill with axes), and the beach became known as El Combate (The Combat).
