Skagen is the northernmost town in Denmark, situated on the east coast of the Skagen Odde peninsula in North Jutland. The town is known for its charming yellow houses with red-tiled roofs and white trim, a characteristic architectural style of Skagen. It is also the closest town to Grenen, the northernmost point of mainland Denmark.
The most unique aspect of Grenen is the distinct meeting of the waters from the Skagerrak (part of the North Sea) and the Kattegat (which leads to the Baltic Sea). You can often see the waves colliding from different directions. However, swimming is strictly prohibited due to the strong and unpredictable currents.
Getting Around Skagen is easy as it is a relatively compact town, making it easy to explore on foot or by bicycle.
A unique way to reach Grenen is by taking the "Sandormen" (Sandworm), a tractor-drawn bus that travels across the sand from the parking area to the tip. It operates from Easter to the end of October.
Grenen is one of Denmark's most iconic natural landmarks, drawing over a million visitors each year.
