Could direct electrical stimulation of the brain be used to enhance memory? In patients with epilepsy undergoing evaluation for resective surgery, Kucewicz et al. show that stimulation of the lateral temporal cortex, but not the hippocampus, parahippocampal neocortex or prefrontal cortex, increases the number of words that patients can remember.
