Operation Snakehunt: U.S. Army & ARVN Strike Viet Cong in the Mekong Delta – 1967

In the heart of the Mekong Delta, the U.S. Army’s 9th Infantry Division and South Vietnamese armed forces launch Operation Snakehunt – a major joint search-and-destroy mission against deeply entrenched Viet Cong strongholds southwest of Saigon.
Rare color footage shows Cobra gunships of the “Delta Devils” (191st Assault Helicopter Company) providing close air support, rocketing and strafing enemy positions as ground troops advance through flooded rice paddies and dense jungle. Captured matériel includes hundreds of modern small arms, tons of rice, medical supplies, ammunition, and enemy uniforms – evidence of the Viet Cong’s extensive supply network.
Highlights include:

Forward refueling points keeping the Cobras on station
Destruction of over 300 sampans and 100 VC structures
Coordinated air-ground assaults that forced the enemy to abandon fortified bases

Restored with authentic 1960s DoD newsreel narration and period military band music – exactly as screened for U.S. troops and the American public during the Vietnam War.
