1 - Some sources dispute the claim that Dansung-sa was the first Korean theater, claiming that the Ae Kwan Theater (애관극장) had already been established in 1895
2 - It's hard to find a definitive source on when Chunhyang was released, but it's believed to have been made around 1921 and released between 1922-23
3 - Shoutout to The Gateway Korea Foundation for the images, since we don't have any surviving footage from the movie
4 - It's actually from 1925
5 - This wasn't the first movie after their liberation, but the biggest during the interwar period
6 - Apperantly, the colour saturation was incredibly poor due to the production and distrubution of the filmmaterial, but unfortunately, we don't have any surviving records of the movie to see this
7 - The funding of the KPG actually came from a plenitude of sources. Towards the end, different factions and ideas had been formed within the organisation; some like Syngman Rhee attempted to garner US support, some like Yi Tong-hwi sought Soviet military aid against the Japanese and some like Kim Ku remained close to Chiang Kai-sheck. The KPG wasn't thus "just a right-wing puppet organisation", but mainly a Korean nationalist government that sought aid from wherever they could find

9 - Kim Eui-suk might not be as big of a director as Park Chan-wook or Bong Joon-ho, but he certainly wasn't forgotten, becoming the current chairman of KOFIC (The Korean Film Council)
