The good news is that there are a lot of surprisingly simple ways to extend the life of your groceries. Here, we have identified five genius hacks to help ensure that berries, avocados, apples, lettuce, bread and cheese will stay fresher for longer.

Apples and Avocados: Squeeze lemons on them.
Cheese: Wrap in parchment paper.
Bread: Cover in a kitchen towel and place in a paper bag.
Berries: Don't rinse until you're ready to eat them.
Lettuce: Store in plastic bag lined with paper towels and keep it in the high-humidity crisper drawer.
