Normalizing data is necessary when you try to combine data with different values in different scales. You will need to find a way to present the result in a commonly understandable scale that is representative for all used values.
Here using US election data that should look familiar for a lot of people and it is also data that is available to download from https://dataverse.harvard.edu/dataset...
