September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Each year, over 15,000 children in the United States are diagnosed with cancer, making it the number one cause of disease death among children nationwide. In this episode of Health Connections, experts from Miami Dade College Medical Campus discuss the most common childhood cancers, advances in treatment, and the critical roles of healthcare providers.
Segment 1 explores why raising awareness matters, the types of childhood cancers most often seen, and promising new research that’s changing outcomes for patients and families. Segment 2 focuses on how nurses and communities support children and their families throughout their cancer journey, including physical side effects, emotional care, and practical support systems. Listeners also learn about hopeful developments in childhood cancer care and ways schools and neighborhoods can make a positive impact.
