In July 1983, Erich Zakowski announced his project to go into F1 to just five people - Siegfried Vogel (director), Helmut Barth (technical director), Bruno Bunk (fabricator), Paul Brown (design & race engineer) and Norbert Kreyer (engine). A partition was set up in the workshop and the forty five other employees had no idea whatever of what was going on behind. Brown began his first designs in November, and by December, Barth was making a 1/5 scale model which lost no time in being put through the wind tunnel. Zakowski original intention was to race the 841 for the first time at the 1984 European GP held at the Nurburgring, but the metal workers' strike had delayed the project. The car has been unveill on September 15 ( • 1984 September 15 - Zakspeed 841 unveiling... ) and the first test took place at the Nürburgring on October 23 ( • 1984 October 23 - Zakspeed 841, 1st test w... ).
