Well, of course Bali's rapidly paced upgrading has brought some incredibly talented chef's to our shores over the last few years. And they're not all European! One of our favorite folks is an Indonesian chef lucky enough to spend 20 years training in New York, New York USA in some of that city's most awarded and talked about restaurants, like Nobu, Buddhakan, Perry Street and Spice Market... and now, brings all that expertise back home to Bali.
"Initially, I needed to re-experience first-hand the foods, scents, and textures of Indonesia, before I could bring it my own twist. So, my wife and I flew from NYC to Jakarta, and made our way through Java, from warung to restaurant, from market to farmer, and then, we finally headed to Bali."
Opening Chandi Restaurant in Bali in 2008, Agung updates the presentation and cooking style of classic dishes like Beef Rendang and Pecel -- a salad similar to Gado-Gado. The menu at Chandi caters to the "glamour-meets-health-nut" clientele of Seminyak with an emphasis on healthy, native ingredient
